Defination of IPA
The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is an alphabetic system of phonetic notation based primarily on the Latin script. It was devised by the International Phonetic Association in the late 19th century as a standardized representation of speech sounds in written form.[1] The IPA is used by lexicographers, foreign language students and teachers, linguists, speech-language pathologists, singers, actors, constructed language creators and translators.
Actually, when we write something, we write english letters or alphabets, not sounds. On the other hand, when we speak something in English, we use sounds, not letter. Remember, in English there more sounds than alphabets. Say for example, there are 26 alphabets in English, but there are 44 sounds to pronouce words made of those 26 letters.

Sounds in English phonetics are devided into two broad classes. Vowel Sound and Consonent Sounds.
Vowel sounds are again classified into two classes:
Monophthongs and Diphthongs. The sounds on your left hand side, are monophthongs, i.e, vowel sounds that are made of single sound.
